I think we are victims of America's state religion, which is Radical Fundamentalist Economism, or the idea that the best thing is whatever makes the most money in the short term. I think we need to free ourselves and our planet from this economic tyranny if we are going to have a future here.

I'm a dark green. Interested in the practicalities of environmentalism, but also see the importance of developing an awareness of our interconnection with all of life.

On the edge
you were looking out
On the frontier
In the decay of the forest
Burning of the land
Dance in a circle
Under trees of green
Watch the world from a faded sunset
And rise up
From your broken dreams
On the edge you were running from
The last frontier
In the decay of the buildings
Turning of the land
Dance in a forest
Under the sacred green
Save the earth from
Greed of gold
Rise up
Let the weeping willow be
On the edge and beyond
You were standing there
Looking out
In a changing world of decay
Save it now
On the edge and beyond
You were standing there
If they could only see
There may be hope for another way
There’s so much hurt
There’s so much pain
Why do we do it to each other
Can’t seem to make no sense of it
On the outcome
And in the end
Who pays the price
In this Dilemma
On the Edge and beyond
On the edge you were looking out
On the frontier
In a view of the twilight
Where the fireflies fly
Dance in a forest
Under the twilight sky
Save the earth from greed of gold
Rise up
Let the Rainforest man be
To chorus:

On the edge and beyond
You were standing there
Looking out
In a changing world of decay
Save it now
On the edge and beyond
You were standing there
If they could only see
There may be hope for another way

I beleive that as living things, we are all connected... unfortunately most humans for centuries have been 'taken over' by their minds, which has caused walls to blind them from seeing their connection with the earth and all things on it. The walls are greed, fear, ego...

When I walk through a huge old growth forrest, or look at a new bloomed flower, I feel a deep connection to these things, and hope that through music and song with conscious lyrics, I and other songwriters, can break down the walls which surround people's hearts to the truth. Healing begins one spirit at a time, and we can only start with our own... and through the collective of positive people on the planet, we can form together to nurture what's left, and look towards our future.

"We've got the whole world in our hands...." whoever composed the words to that song long ago WAS NOT KIDDING.

I absolutely believe that if we invested all the resources used to promote violence against each other -- instead to help us "lift each other up," we could radically change this world and have our "Golden Age of Peace."  But we need to learn the importance of BALANCE -- and that includes balancing the size of our human population in a careful, thoughtful way, voluntarily, because it is the right thing to do.  This cannot be legislated; we have to know it is the right thing to do -- and do it.

In order to heal the Planet's environment, we need to revisit every facet of our cultural norms -- take the whole thing apart, look at each piece -- and think about kinder ways of "putting it back together."  We need to work steadily at building bridges with the use of words/language  -- so that people who cannot stand in the same room and speak to each other now will easily do so tomorrow.  HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY SAVE THE PLANET'S ENVIRONMENT WHEN SO MUCH OF OUR ATTENTION AND OUR RESOURCES (MONEY) ARE FOCUSED ON WAR?????      We should pay close attention to advice that comes from THE ELDERS  -- the group I believe was initiated by Richard Branson and Peter Gabriel.   Cultivate sugar-based ethanol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LisaAoedetoo many to list, for a pretty good list of Bay Area organizations working on climate change, see: http://www.sustainablesiliconvalley.org/climate-change-orgs.htm  also Women's Environmental Network etc.  We need to empower local communitities to do whatever we can to take personal actions to prevent and minimize impacts from global warming, as well as prepare and adapt to its impacts now. We need to have sound regional, state and federal policies that enable these actions and we need to start yesterday because it is already happening and will not just turn itself around...
